Session 0 (15 Dec 2025)

This session was played at Haikal and I's house to hash out what we needed to know before we started the campaign in January 2026. The players were:

  • Rafiq (Editor/Game Master)
  • Haikal (playing Sam/Aero in the campaign)
  • Buzz (playing Jon/The Swan in the campaign)
  • Toph (playing Mayari/Beacon in the campaign)

Setup

Instead of a typical session 0, this session followed a structure where each player took a turn in the hot seat, where they had to roleplay as their character from the upcoming campaign, and answer questions from the other players, making the answers up on the spot.

Round 1: Rafiq

I went first, roleplaying as Jade Marlowe (Sage), a postgraduate sociology student at Miskatonic University, who started a forum to discuss the Vasir, and was herself one of the super-powered folk. Her power was to be able to see hidden details about a person in the shape of a forum profile, which is how she managed to make her forum, vasir.rath, have a hidden section only for verified (by her power) Vasir.

Round 2: Haikal

Haikal went after me, playing Thruggsahmigul (Sam for short), a young orc from a mining colony nearby Mosskach who prized storytelling. During an incursion that slaughtered most in his colony, he reached out for an unknown power and somehow teleported to Ilrinia, having been there ever since. He goes by Aero on vasir.rath.

Sam believes his powers are the same as Aeruki, legendary knights from orcish legend who strengthened magic in the world by crating leylines to channel magicka. He spends his days working as a journalist for a popular blog-forum, zephyr.net with Xenuga Garothmuk, the owner of and editor for the blog-forum who took Sam in after he teleported to Ilrinia scared and alone.

Round 3: Toph

Next was Toph, playing Mayari Atum, the newly minted Beacon of Aenyrathia. Mayari, a 20 year old applied magic student at Miskatonic University, was recruited into the Beacon Corps, an interplanar peacekeeping force, and just graduated from the six-month training as a full Beacon. She's back to school now, but any time an alert comes through her pendant, she has to respond immediately.

Round 4: Buzz

Buzz went last, playing a character who was actually from the previous campaign (though with a retcon to his last name), Jonathan Clearwater, calling himself The Swan. Jon later discovered he gained the power to transmute objects by manipulating the raw magicka they are made of, as well as a ridealong deity in his head, calling herself Sellen, who had a keen interest in the Clearwaters.

End

We spent some time talking about how excited we were about the coming campaign, and discussed possible team names, settling on "The Watch" as the strongest contender thus far.
